The key domestic benchmarks are likely to witness a positive opening today tracking a mostly bullish trend in fellow Asian peers as a dip in the number of Americans filling for jobless claims signaled a pickup in the labour market of the world’s biggest economy. US jobless claims fell by 36,000 to 280,000 last week, the Labour Department said. China’s Shanghai Composite fell while Hang Seng rose but Japan’s Nikkei 225 surged as a weaker yen boosted the appeal of exporter stocks. Back home, foreign fund inflows may continue at a robust pace amid speculation that strong Indo-China trade ties may boost growth in Asia’s third biggest economy. China has agreed to invest US 20 billion in India over five years while Chinese President Xi Jinping assured his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi that China will allow greater market access to Indian companies. The key domestic benchmarks are likely to open higher today tracking a firm trend in fellow Asian markets ahead of the US Federal Reserve policy decision today in which it may offer cues over the timing to raise interest rates. In Ukraine, the Red Cross was closely working out details of allowing a safe-passage plan for a Russian aid convoy bound for war-torn eastern Ukraine. China’s Shanghai Composite was trading with slim gains, while Hang Seng rose amid hopes that China may accelerate reforms to fasten growth while Japan’s Nikkei 225 continued to extend gains.
