Pre-Market: Sensex, Nifty seen opening flat on weak global cues 06/05/2015

Tracking weak cues from global peers, the Indian benchmarks are poised to open on flat note on Wednesday. The negative opening of Nifty India stock futures in Singapore further validates the bearish opening at Dalal-Street. The investors will keep an eye on the development in the Parliament and hold their position, waiting for clarity on policy front. On the global front, Asian markets were trading lower as weak US and European equity markets weighed on investors sentiment. In the overnight trade, Wall Street ended sharply lower as wider than expected US trade deficit data raised concerns over the health of world’s largest economy.

Ignoring weak global cues, the 30-share bellwether index of the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex is expected to maintain its gaining streak on Thursday amid hopes that the upcoming Budget will include reforming measures to ensure India’s economic boost.

Overnight, the US markets ended flat, following which the Asian markets opened with a lower note on Thursday. Japan’s Nikkei 225 was at 15,360, down by nearly 9 points; China’s Shanghai Composite was at 2,056, down by 3 points and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was at 23,543, down by 6 points. Back home, the pre-budget rally cause markets to end higher on Wednesday. The BSE’s SENSEX closed at 25841.21, up by 324.86 points or by 1.27 per cent and the NSE’s wide-based Nifty ended at 7725.15, up by 90.45 points or by 1.18 per cent.

On BSE, total number of shares traded was 35.25 crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 4315.78 Crore.

The FIIs on July 02, 2014 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 9053.43 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1324.80 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 6795.65 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 618.80 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 2257.78 Crore and Rs. 706.00.

The 30-share benchmark index, Sensex is expected to open on a weak note on Thursday ahead of the expiry of June Future & Options contracts today. Iraq crisis, which may lead to shortage of crude supplies, is further likely to add to investors’ woes.

Among the Asian stocks, all the markets opened in green on Thursday, led by Hang Seng index, which was trading up by 190 points at 23,057. China’s Shanghai Composite and Japan’s Nikkei 225 were also trading up by 11 and 48 points, respectively tracking the US markets, which ended higher on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Sensex closed at 25,313.74, down by 55.16 points or by 0.22 per cent and the NSE’s Nifty ended at 7,569.25, down by 10.95 points or by 0.14 per cent.

On BSE, total number of shares traded was 30.80 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 3221.85 Crore.

The FIIs on 25/06/2014 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 3817.29 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 354.09 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 3779.86 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 775.20 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 37.43 Crore and Rs. -421.11.

The 30-share benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex is expected to open on a flat note this morning tracking weak cues from most of the Asian markets. The bearish trend in the Asian markets arise over rising concerns in Iraq, following which the US markets also ended lower on Tuesday.

Among the Asian stocks, Japan’s Nikkei 225 was down by nearly 65 points at 15,331; China’s Shanghai Composite was at 2,026, down by 7 points; and Taiwan Index was down by 10 points at 9,236. On the other hand, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and Singapore’s Straits Times were trading up by 36 and 2 points, respectively in the morning trading session.

Back home, investors are expected to remain on the sidelines ahead of the expiry of derivatives contracts. Furthermore, investors are likely to remain conscious till the presentation of Federal Budget on July 10 as the PM hinted towards taking tough steps to revive the country’s economy. On Tuesday, Sensex rebounded 337.58 points to end at 25,368.90, while the 50-share Nifty index ended at 7580, up by 86 points. On BSE, total number of shares traded was 37.95 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 3608.47 Crore.

The FIIs on 24/06/2014 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 2770.36 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 610.47 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 2955.15 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 440.01 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -184.79 Crore and Rs. 170.46
