Indian equities are poised to open flat on Tuesday, tracking weak cues from fellow Asian peers after Wall Street ended mixed in overnight trade, ahead of the release of Economic Survey 2017-18 later today, which will give an indication about GDP growth, fiscal targets and impact of demonetization on the economy. Muted trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for February delivery, which were trading at 8,627.50, down by 26.50 points or 0.31 per cent, at 10:58 AM Singapore time, also signaled a flat opening for Sensex. The market may see stock specific movement as over 150 companies would release their earnings report today which includes index heavyweights such as, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Auto, Oil India, InterGlobe Aviation and JSW Steel.
On Monday, the key domestic benchmark settled with marginal losses on Monday as investors resorted to profit booking ahead of Budget session which begins tomorrow with the Economic Survey and Union Budget to be presented by the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday. The 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex closed at 27849.56, down by 32.9 points or by 0.12 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 8632.75, down by 8.5 points or by 0.1 per cent.
Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty were Idea Cellular Ltd. 154863527.00, Bharti Airtel Ltd. 20946162.00, ICICI Bank Ltd. 15488611.00, Hindalco Industries Ltd. 12048505.00, State Bank of India 11884795.00.
On NSE, total number of shares traded was 117.62 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 19953.40 Crore.
On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 155544 with a total turnover of Rs. 10934.53 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 607304 with a total turnover of Rs. 40647.23 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 1797343 with a total turnover of Rs. 126839.75 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 313190 with a total turnover of Rs. 21398.98 Crore.
The FIIs on January 30, 2017, stood as net buyer in equity but net seller in debt segment. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 5854.23 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1915.25 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 5626.91 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1049.91 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 227.32 Crore and Rs. 865.34.
