Market hovers in red; oil & gas stocks tank

The key domestic benchmark indices extended the losses during the morning session of trade, with the Sensex down over 150 points weighed down by oil & gas heavyweights after the Narendra Modi led government said that the decision on gas price hike would be taken in three months after consultation with all stakeholders. Moreover, the caution also prevailed ahead of the F&O June expiry. The major laggards on the D-street included ONGC, Reliance Industries, Gail, HDFC, HUL and Maruti among others.
At 10:18AM BSE SENSEX was at 25181.19 down by 132.55 points or by 0.52 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 7524.7, down by 44.55, points or by 0.59 per cent.
The BSE MIDCAP was at 9208.73, up by 0.07 points or by 0 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 10004.36, down by 8.43 points or by 0.08 per cent.
The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 25309.33 and an intraday low of 25129.06, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 7570.2 and intraday low of 7514.65.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 252.50,+1.04%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1667.05,+1.01%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 533.30,+0.93%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1180.65,+0.88%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2298.95,+0.88%), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 414.65,-5.08%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1021.75,-2.76%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 460.05,-1.57%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 982.55,-1.26%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 618.00,-1.04%), among others.
Among the sectors, In BSE, BSE_CGS index was at 15910.89 up by 138.79 points or by 0.88%. Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 2172.00,+3.11%), Crompton Greaves Ltd.
