The key domestic benchmark indices ended in positive terrain on Monday, paring some of early gains, helped by strong global recovery and short covering, tracking a positive trend across markets in Asia. The market sentiment got a lift amid positive developments on US election front after the Federal Bureau of Investigation maintained the opinion that Hillary Clinton’s handling of her e-mails wasn’t a crime, raising hopes of the Democrat emerging victorious in the race for the White House.

The 30-share benchmark index closed at 27458.99, up by 184.84 points or by 0.68 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 8497.05, up by 63.3 points or by 0.75 per cent.

During the day’s trade, the Sensex touched an intraday high of 27591.15 and intraday low of 27398.72, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8535.85 and intraday low of 8481.45.

On the corporate front, Lupin surged nearly 7 per cent on the Bombay Stock Exchange after the pharma major received Establishment Inspection Report (EIR) from the US health regulator for its Goa plant leading to closure of all outstanding inspections of the facility.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1519.40,+6.93%), State Bank of India (Rs. 252.70,+4.06%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 278.75,+3.36%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 256.70,+3.05%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 411.50,+2.10%), among others.

Meanwhile, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2279.35,-2.18%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1399.85,-1.34%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 838.15,-1.09%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 507.30,-0.94%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 267.35,-0.85%), were among top losers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, metal and healthcare stocks were among top gainers on BSE, rising as much as 1.94 per cent and 1.89 per cent respectively.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 3186, shares advanced were 2106 while 934 shares declined and 146 were unchanged.

Indian equity benchmarks ended lower on Wednesday weighed down by financial stocks like Axis Bank which reported a sharp plunge in its September quarter profits, and tracking weak cues globally as a retreat in US consumer confidence, and renewed slump in oil prices raised concerns over the health of the global economy. 

The 30-share BSE SENSEX closed at 27,836.51, down by 254.91 points or 0.91 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 8,615.25, down by 76.05 points or 0.88 per cent.

During the day’s trade, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 28,050.55 and intraday low of 27,759.56, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8,657.3 and intraday low of 8,596.6.

On the corporate front, shares of Axis Bank witnessed selling pressure after reporting a steep fall of 83.3 per cent in its net profit for the second quarter ended September 30, 2016 at Rs 319.08 crore, mainly on account of rise in bad loans.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 486.50,-8.04%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 529.50,-4.27%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 398.85,-4.01%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 278.55,-3.65%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 305.00,-2.43%), among others.

On the flip side, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 318.05,+2.25%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3421.55,+1.92%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 5871.95,+1.56%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 3243.30,+1.34%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 842.80,+1.29%), were among top gainers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, bank and metal stocks were among top losers on BSE, falling as much as 1.89 per cent and 1.37 per cent respectively.

The Indian benchmark indices ended tad lower on Wednesday, led by losses in frontline bluechip such as Tata Steel, M&M, Idea Cellular, GAIL and HUL, HDFC, Bharti Airtel and TCS, as sentiments remained weak in the absence of any positive trigger.

The 30-share BSE SENSEX closed at 28091.42, down by 87.66 points or by 0.31 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 8691.3, down by 17.65 points or by 0.2 per cent.

During the day’s trade, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 28211.41 and intraday low of 28013.69, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8722.65 and intraday low of 8663.45.

On the corporate front, shares of Tata group companies witnessed selling pressure after Tata Sons removed Cyrus Pallonji Mistry as chairman of the conglomerate and appointed Ratan Tata, chairman of Tata Trusts as interim chairman for four months.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1303.00,-2.72%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 415.50,-2.51%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 434.90,-2.02%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 832.05,-2.00%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 289.10,-1.30%), among others.

On the flip side, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 312.60,+9.43%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 3200.45,+3.59%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 289.10,+1.60%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 529.05,+1.49%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 311.05,+1.48%), were among top gainers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, IT and FMCG stocks were among top losers on BSE, falling as much as 0.84 per cent and 0.83 per cent respectively.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was flat. On BSE out of total shares traded 3179, shares advanced were 1431 while 1496 shares declined and 252 were unchanged.
