The key domestic benchmark indices continued to trade higher in late morning deal on Tuesday in a broad-based rally, tracking firm cues from fellow Asian peers. The Indian rupee was also trading higher against its US counterpart amid fresh selling of dollar by foreign funds and exporters. HCL Technologies tumbled over 3 per cent on the Bombay Stock Exchange after the IT major reported a 7.8 per cent rise in consolidated net profit at Rs 2,070 crore for the third quarter ended December 2016.

At 12:00 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 27236.95, up by 119.61 points or by 0.44 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8435.9, up by 44.4 points or by 0.53 per cent.

In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 27268.74 and intraday low of 27140.85, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8442.15 and intraday low of 8398.15.

Investors shrugged off concerns over Donald Trump’s protectionist policies and shifted focus to Union Budget 2017-18 which will be presented on February 1. The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed the plea which sought extension of the Budget presentation date to after the Assembly Elections in the five states.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 173.40,+2.03%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 309.40,+1.93%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1416.95,+1.68%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 291.05,+1.64%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 203.35,+1.62%), among others.

On the flip side, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 851.00,-1.42%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 316.25,-0.99%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 944.00,-0.81%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 478.10,-0.25%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 460.70,-0.21%), were among top losers on BSE.

On the sectoral front, power and capital goods stocks were leading the gain, advancing as much as 1.23 per cent and 1.07 per cent respectively.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was positive. On BSE out of total shares traded 2581, shares advanced were 1464 while 938 shares declined and 179 were unchanged.

The Indian benchmark indices ended on robust note on Thursday in a broad-based rally by traders, tracking firm cues from Asian peers amid hope that the European Central Bank would continue its asset buying campaign at a policy meeting later in the day. All the thirteen indices ended in positive terrain with metal and auto stocks emerging as top gainers, adding as much as 2.93 per cent and 2.63 per cent respectively. 

The 30-share benchmark index closed trade at 26694.28, up by 457.41 points or by 1.74 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 8246.85, up by 144.8 points or by 1.79 per cent. 

During the day’s trade, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 26733.87 and intraday low of 26357.35, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 8256.25 and intraday low of 8151.75. 

In line with benchmark indices, the broader market also ended in positive terrain with the BSE MIDCAP closing at 12508.34, up by 183.8 points or by 1.49 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP settled at 12256.25, up by 154.48 points or by 1.28 per cent. 

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 431.55,+4.62%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 461.30,+3.60%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 286.25,+3.30%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2776.50,+2.77%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3308.95,+2.53%), among others. 



The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2952, shares advanced were 1893 while 883 shares declined and 176 were unchanged.
