Mid-Session: Sensex slips below 28K on weak Asian cues; auto, pharma stocks down 0.9%

The Indian equities were trading near day’s low in late morning deal on Monday in a broad-based selling, tracking weak cues from Asian peers. Renewed fears over a US interest rate hike in the near-term after comments from a top Fed official who backed the case for a rate hike soon, also curbed risk taking appetite.

At 12:10 PM, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was at 27932.9, down by 144.1 points or by 0.51 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8619.45, down by 47.45 points or by 0.55 per cent.

On the corporate front, shares of Aptech continued its gaining streak and rallied over 18 per cent, hitting 52-week high, on the Bombay Stock Exchange after the promoter, Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, increased his stake in the company through open market transaction.

On the sectoral front, auto and pharma stocks were among top losers on BSE, falling as much as 0.87 per cent each.
