The key domestic benchmark indices continued to creep in the negative terrain during the late noon trading session after sharp gains in the previous session which lifted the benchmarks to 18-month highs.

At 14:20 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 28887.88 down by 157.4 points or by 0.54 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8905.3 down by 47.2 points or by 0.53 per cent.

Investors also remained on the sidelines ahead of industrial production data for the month of July to be released after the market hours. Industrial output growth halved to 2.1 per cent in June, as compared to 4.2 per cent in June 2015.

Metal index was at 10123.89 down by -138.85 points or by -1.35%. Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 50.90,-5.21%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 156.75,-3.21%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 49.25,-2.28%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 395.45,-1.85%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 172.60,-1.54%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2915 , shares advanced were 1226 while 1497 shares declined and 192 were unchanged.
