Mid-Session: Sensex sinks nearly 400 pts on global sell-off; realty stocks down 2.8%

The key domestic benchmark indices continued to witness selling pressure in late morning deal on Monday tracking a slump across markets in Asia as central banks in the world’s biggest economies start to question the benefits of loose monetary policies, curbing risk taking appetite. Uncertainty over the outlook for global monetary policies further spurred volatility in capital flows in emerging market economies.

At 12:15 PM, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was at 28412.65, down by 384.6 points or by 1.34 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 8737.4, down by 129.3 points or by 1.46 per cent.

On the sectoral front, most of indices were bleeding in red with realty and metal stocks were leading the decline, falling as much as 2.83 per cent and 2.78 per cent respectively.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2589, shares advanced were 656 while 1803 shares declined and 130 were unchanged.
