* BANKING: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will meet chairmen, managing directors, and chief executive officers of state-owned banks today to review their quarterly financial performance.
 -Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das said the monetary policy committee will be in place
before the Reserve Bank of India's next monetary policy review.
 -Hero FinCorp has raised over 10 bln rupees from ChrysCapital, Credit Suisse, and Hero Group to
support growth and enable the company to cater to demand for credit services over the next 12 to 18
months.

* CONSTRUCTION: The government has pledged to kick-off one project every week in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh as part of its ambitious development agenda for the state.

* DEFENCE: India is close to finalising a deal to buy 36 fighter jets from France's Dassault Aviation, a defence ministry official said on Thursday, and the Cabinet is set to meet next week to agree on the
price.

* OIL AND GAS: Prices of petrol have been hiked by 58 paise a ltr, and that of diesel has been cut by 31 paise per ltr, effective today.

* PRECIOUS METALS: The government has raised the base import price of gold by $2 to $430 per 10 gm, and that of silver by $8 to $620 per kg.

* SUGAR: Ratings agency ICRA has said India's sugar output in the new season from Oct 1 is seen at 23.2 mln tn, down around 8% from a year ago.

* TELECOM: Reliance Jio Infocomm has slammed incumbent operators BHARTI AIRTEL, IDEA CELLULAR and Vodafone for allegedly refusing their users to switch to the new operator. Apple Inc has slashed prices of its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s models by 22,000 rupees in India.
