Markets extend losses; M&M, HDFC shares dip :17/10/2016 14:25

Tracking weak cues from global peers, the key domestic benchmark indices continued to hover in red during the late noon trading session weighed down by profit taking in select index heavyweights such as Mahindra & Mahindra and HDFC Bank.
At 14:23 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 27585.32 down by 88.28 points or by 0.32 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8536.65 down by 46.75 points or by 0.54 per cent.
Sentiments also remained downbeat after rupee depreciated against dollar on account of increased demand for the American currency from importers.
In the choppy trade so-far, Sensex touched an intraday high of 27803.21 and an intraday low of 27517.18, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 8615.4 and an intraday low of 8518.4.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 257.90,+6.64%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 147.25,+1.62%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 524.00,+0.64%), State Bank of India (Rs. 253.35,+0.58%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 846.25,+0.51%), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1321.50,-2.62%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3405.55,-2.20%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1238.25,-1.84%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1185.85,-1.82%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1452.15,-1.38%), among others.
Among the sectors, Auto index was at 22187.44 down by -367.46 points or by -1.63%. MRF Ltd. (Rs. 50339.75,-3.96%), Apollo Tyres Ltd. (Rs. 210.90,-3.03%), Eicher Motors Ltd. (Rs. 24682.70,-2.81%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1321.50,-2.62%), Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd. (Rs. 321.70,-2.62%),.
In BSE, BSE_CGS index was at 14742.37 down by -150.83 points or by -1.01%. Havells India Ltd. (Rs. 424.75,-4.01%), Crompton Greaves Ltd. (Rs. 74.05,-1.79%), GE T&D India Ltd. (Rs. 342.20,-1.61%), Mahindra CIE Automotive Ltd. (Rs. 186.50,-1.56%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1452.15,-1.38%),.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2984 , shares advanced were 1350 while 1440 shares declined and 194 were unchanged.
On the global front, Asian peers ended the day on a mixed note while European counters were trading in red.
