The key domestic benchmark indices were trading in a positive terrain in the afternoon trading session tracking firm cues from global markets, helped by strong rally in rate sensitive financial and realty space.

Traders also got some support with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s statement that situation is normal as far as remonetisation is concerned and RBI is monitoring cash position on a daily basis.

At 12:20 a.m, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading at 28557.27 up by 256 points or by 0.9 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8843.9 points, trading higher by 65.9 points or by 0.75 per cent.

The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 28726.26 and an intraday low of 28431.61 while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 8896.45 and an intraday low of 8804.25

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1422.25,+7.15 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 667.00,+2.73 per cent), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1418.05,+1.77 per cent), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 593.55,+1.74 per cent), Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1458.95,+1.31 per cent), among others.

Meanwhile, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2416.00,-1.26 per cent), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 315.20,-0.96 per cent), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1002.40,-0.94 per cent), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 363.60,-0.71 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 3105.05,-0.67 per cent), were among the top losers on BSE.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total 2770 shares traded, 1506 shares advanced, 1066 shares declined while 198 were unchanged.

On the global front, Asian stocks were trading lower today as investors booked profits, while the US markets closed lower in the previous trading session after a lackluster performance, as traders expressed some uncertainty about the near-term outlook for the markets following the recent run to record highs.
