Indian equities are likely to continue buying momentum on Friday aided by the strong rally in the global markets, especially Wall Street which hit record high on upbeat retail sales and inflation data while President Trump reassured of mass tax cuts. Asian stocks were trading mixed on fear that the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates earlier than expected following robust US economic data. Bullish trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for February delivery, which were trading at 8,827.50, up by 39.5 points or 0.45 per cent, at 10:20 AM Singapore time, also signaled a positive opening for Sensex. With corporate earnings season come to an end, traders will shift focus to the outcome of the state election results for more clarity on the government's capacity to revive stalled reforms, which will set future direction for markets. The market may see stocks specific movement with IOC, Indiabulls Housing Finance, Idea and BHEL shares will remain in focus as the first two companies would be included in NSE’s Nifty50 index, replacing the other two.

Snapping two-day losses, the key equity benchmarks rebounded strongly on Thursday helped by gain in index heavyweights such as SBI, TCS, Infosys, Sun Pharma, Maruti Suzuki, GAIL (India) and Tata Motors. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) climbed over 1 per cent after IT bellwether said its board will meet on February 20, 2017 to consider a proposal for buyback of equity shares of the company. The 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex closed at 28301.27, up by 145.71 points or by 0.52 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 8778, up by 53.3 points or by 0.61 per cent.

Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty were State Bank of India 21794688.00, ICICI Bank Ltd. 18416223.00, Tata Motors Ltd. 11622714.00, ITC Ltd. 10575410.00, Hindalco Industries Ltd. 10429023.00. On NSE, total number of shares traded was 106.99 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 21744.28 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 204458 with a total turnover of Rs. 14765.47 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 669850 with a total turnover of Rs. 46775.43 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 7963896 with a total turnover of Rs. 616413.68 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 458186 with a total turnover of Rs. 33143.86 Crore.

As on February 16, 2017, the FIIs stood as net buyer in both equity and debt segments. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 5551.14 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1060.08 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 5297.52 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 814.33 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 253.62 Crore and Rs. 245.75.
