Mid-Session: Sensex, Nifty stay under selling pressure; Idea down 5%

The Indian equities continued to trade lower in late morning deal on Tuesday as investors resorted to profit booking, tracking muted trend across fellow Asian peers. Avenue Supermarts continued to trade higher after making a stellar debut at the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today, surging over 100 per cent against the issue price of Rs 299. Idea Cellular continued losing spree on Tuesday and tanked nearly 8 per cent in intra-day after the company said its board has approved the scheme of amalgamation of Vodafone India and its wholly owned subsidiary Vodafone Mobile Services with the company.
At 12:23 hour, the Bombay Stock Exchange bellwether Sensex was trading at 29427.38, down by 91.36 points or by 0.31 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9103.7, down by 23.15 points or by 0.25 per cent.
During the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 29585.05 and intraday low of 29419.13, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9147.75 and intraday low of 9099.75.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2635.75,-3.89%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 489.60,-2.96%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 367.95,-1.97%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 693.50,-1.94%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1284.50,-1.23%), among others.
Meanwhile, ITC Ltd. (Rs. 284.45,+0.83%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 192.15,+0.79%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1549.95,+0.76%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1026.20,+0.55%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 293.30,+0.46%), were among the top gainers on BSE.
On the sectoral front, healthcare and bankex stocks were leading the decline, falling as much as 1.61 per cent and 0.62 per cent respectively.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2752, shares advanced were 951 while 1643 shares declined and 158 were unchanged.
