The Indian benchmarks are set to open flat on Monday due to ripples coming from Uttar Pradesh with several marketmen raising concerns over the Centre's future reform policies in view of anointment of hardliner Yogi Adityanath as the Chief Minister.
The markets are particularly concerned about any large-scale sell off by the foreign investors who tend to react promptly to any such development.
Asian markets have opened mostly lower in the early morning trade and Japanese stocks are closed for the day on account of Spring Equinox Day, while Wall Street closed mixed on Friday.
Muted trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for March delivery, which were trading at 9164.50, down by 6 points or 0.07 per cent, at 11:00 AM Singapore time, signaled a flat opening for the domestic bourses.
On Friday, Indian equity benchmark ended the day marginally higher after clocking fresh highs intraday as investors booked profits in the rally witnessed by the benchmarks during the week. The 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex closed at 29648.99, up by 63.14 points or by 0.21 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 9160.05, up by 6.35 points or by 0.07 per cent.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 149.79 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 31890.88 Crore.
On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 176902 with a total turnover of Rs. 13103.41 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 652400 with a total turnover of Rs. 48406.47 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 2792363 with a total turnover of Rs. 209714.40 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 408904 with a total turnover of Rs. 30868.81 Crore.
The FIIs on 17/03/2017 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 5611.90 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 5220.00 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 4187.66 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1451.57 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1424.24 Crore and Rs. 3768.43.
