The Indian benchmarks are set to open higher on Friday as markets are expected to continue yesterday’s momentum.
The markets may just make a fresh record high on Friday as goods & services tax (GST) just inched closer to becoming a reality.
Asian markets have opened mostly higher as the dollar continued the slide that began after the Federal Reserve indicated it was unlikely to speed up monetary tightening, while Wall Street closed mixed weighed down by healthcare shares after proposals made in President Donald Trump's Budget signalled higher regulatory costs for the sector and a cut in federal funding for medical research.
Positive trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for March delivery, which were trading at 9207, up by 21.50 points or 0.23 per cent, at 11:02 AM Singapore time, signaled a positive opening for the domestic bourses.
On Thursday, Indian equity benchmarks ended the day on a strong note after the Federal Reserve raised interest rates in US by 25 basis points but sounded less hawkish than expected. The 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex closed at 29585.85, up by 187.74 points or by 0.64 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 9153.7, up by 68.9 points or by 0.76 per cent.

Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 642569 with a total turnover of Rs. 48643.31 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 6908023 with a total turnover of Rs. 561862.17 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 397577 with a total turnover of Rs. 30818.93 Crore. The FIIs on 16/03/2017 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 6066.88 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 580.32 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 4648.77 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 386.16 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1418.11 Crore and Rs. 194.16
