Mid-Session: Sensex, Nifty trade flat; IT, pharma stocks drag

The Indian equities were trading in positive terrain with marginal gain in late morning deal on Friday, tracking firm cues from Asian peers, led by buying in frontline bluechip such as ITC, Tata Motors, GAIL (India), Coal India and SBI. However, selling across IT, Teck and pharma stocks restricted market gain. IT bellwether Infosys was down nearly 1 per cent after the company announced that its US head Sandeep Dadlani has resigned. At 12:23 hours, the 30-share barometer Sensex was at 31102.84, up by 27.11 points or by 0.09 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 9583.65, up by 5.6 points or by 0.06 per cent. In the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intra-day high of 31182.73 and intraday low of 31059.41, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9615.85 and intraday low of 9575.4.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 307.65,+1.90%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 454.30,+1.30%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 380.15,+0.93%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 256.65,+0.88%), State Bank of India (Rs. 286.40,+0.83%), among others.
On the flip side, Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1132.15,-4.30%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 255.40,-2.07%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2644.45,-2.02%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 535.25,-1.66%), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 540.15,-1.64%), were among the top losers on BSE.
On the sectoral front, realty and consumer durables stocks emerged as top gainers, adding as much as 1.67 per cent and 0.78 per cent respectively. The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2647, shares advanced were 1380 while 1118 shares declined and 149 were unchanged.
