Sensex gains over 100 pts; TCS, Bharti up

Driven by gains in index heavyweights including Sun Pharma, TCS, Wipro, Dr Reddy’s Labs, Bajaj Auto, Infosys and HDFC Bank, the domestic bourses edge higher in late morning trade on Friday. Even, the boarder market continued to hold its ground with moderate gains. Shares of IT companies were trading higher with TCS gaining over 2 per cent after Accenture's April-June quarter revenue beat estimates with strong traction in Europe and financial services. Among the individual stocks, Ranbaxy Labs gains 1.5 per cent on getting US FDA nod to launch the first generic version of Swiss drugmaker Novartis' Diovan (Valsartan) in the US market.
At 11:15 hours, the 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex was at 25171.58 up by 108.91 points or by 0.43 % and then NSE Nifty was at 7530.85 up by 37.65 points or by 0.5 per cent.
Bucking the trend, the broader market was also moving above baseline. The BSE MIDCAP was at 9223.44 up by 42.6 points or by 0.46 per cent while the BSE SMLCAP was at 10057.06 up by 75.68 points or by 0.76 per cent.
The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was positive. On BSE out of total shares traded 2607, shares advanced were 1602 while 897 shares declined and 108 were unchanged.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 662.40,+4.25%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2375.75,+2.87%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 543.90,+1.54%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 2538.95,+1.36%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2314.60,+1.29%), among others.
On the flip side, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 330.75,-2.33%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 246.70,-1.85%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 162.80,-1.51%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1156.15,-1.49%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 2463.35,-0.98%),, were among notable losers on BSE.
Among the thirteen sectoral indices on BSE, healthcare index was leading the gain and was trading higher at 11220.86 up by 233.55 points or by 2.13 per cent. Divi's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 1446.00,+6.43%), Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 499.50,+5.88%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 662.40,+4.25%), Strides Arcolab Ltd. (Rs. 634.75,+2.14%), Wockhardt Ltd. (Rs. 575.00,+1.91%), were among the notable gainers on BSE.
Following the HCS index, BSE_IT index was at 9229.61 up by 180.23 points or by 1.99 per cent. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2375.75,+2.87%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1471.85,+2.59%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 2095.00,+2.57%), Oracle Financial Services Software Ltd. (Rs. 3030.00,+1.97%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 543.90,+1.54%), were among the others supporting the market.
