The Indian benchmarks are poised to open flat with positive bias on Tuesday on sustained buying by foreign institutional investors, tracking mixed cues from fellow Asian peers after Wall Street ended lower in overnight trade. Firm trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for March delivery, which were trading at 9,186.00, up by 22.00 points or 0.24 per cent, at 10:34 AM Singapore time, also signaled a positive opening for Sensex. Shares of D-Mart operator Avenue Supermarts, which raised Rs 1870-crore through initial public offering, will remain in focus as it will list on stock exchanges today. On the economy front, the Union Cabinet has approved four legislations required to implement GST which will be introduced in Parliament this week. On the corporate front, investors will keep an eye on IT bellwether HCL Technologies as it would buyback Rs 3,500 crore of shares.

On Monday, Indian equity benchmarks settled the day on a negative note, tracking muted trend in Asian markets, while concerns over the Centre's future reform policies in view of appointment of hardliner Yogi Adityanath as the Chief Minister also weighed on market sentiment. Idea Cellular was the stock in focus throughout the day after it announced a merger with Vodafone in the morning. The stock saw huge volatile swings as it surged nearly 15 per cent intraday, before plunging 15 per cent as well. The 30-share barometer index of Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex closed at 29518.74, down by 130.25 points or by 0.44 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 9126.85, down by 33.2 points or by 0.36 per cent.

Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty were Idea Cellular Ltd. 200829612.00, ITC Ltd. 15897260.00, ICICI Bank Ltd. 11048388.00, State Bank of India 9678185.00, Hindalco Industries Ltd. 7107018.00.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 130.08 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 22650.34 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 115241 with a total turnover of Rs. 8458.19 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 556747 with a total turnover of Rs. 40382.43 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 2407262 with a total turnover of Rs. 183579.19 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 374071 with a total turnover of Rs. 27677.56 Crore.

As on March 20, 2017, the FIIs stood as net buyer in both equity and debt segments. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 11445.07 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1512.13 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 9845.05 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1175.91 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1600.02 Crore and Rs. 336.22.
